Bunny Suncatcher Decal
Date: December 27, 2020
Hi! Welcome to my first project for my “365 Days of Creativity” journal! I am extremely excited to share my journey of exploring different creative outlets!
Project Description: For this first project, I decided to make a suncatcher sticker and include an illustration of a bunny. A suncatcher is a transparent holographic film that when the sun shines towards it, it will create these really pretty rainbows inside the room or anywhere you decide to place your suncatchers!
Tools:
Illustrator | Adobe
White adhesive vinyl | Amazon
Clear Vinyl Transfer Paper | Amazon
Holographic Window Film | Amazon
Craft Tools | Amazon
Cricut Explore Air 2 | Walmart
Cricut Design Space | Cricut
Process: I first illustrated the bunny using Adobe Illustrator. The key to this design was something that wouldn’t cover up the holographic window film as much so it allows for the sunlight to go through it. I went with a simple line art design and an overall round shape. I kind of (highkey) have an obsession with bunnies because of how cute they are. So I wanted to make a super cute bunny illustration! (Just look at how it is curled up!) I also had to make a different file for the diecut. I saved both files as .PNG and uploaded them to Cricut Design Space. I measured how big I wanted my bunny to be and aligned it with the diecut.
The first thing I cut with my Cricut Explore Air 2 machine was the bunny line art using my white adhesive vinyl. Then cut the diecut with my Cricut machine using the holographic window film. I peeled off the extra vinyl using my craft tools and transferred it using clear vinyl transfer paper. This next part was kind of tricky for me. I had to be careful and align the bunny vinyl illustration on to the diecut. And there it was! A bunny suncatcher decal!
I really liked how they came out so I mass-produced my bunnies (get it? just how bunnies reproduce easily). This time I used 12” x 12” sheets and was able to cut out nine bunnies per sheet.
This was honestly pretty easy and super fun to make! I really like how it came out and I like how they can enhance your room with a subtle rainbow inside your room!
